After going 10-1 as an 18-year-old in the Dominican Summer League last year, Pino is 9-2 with Elizabethton and looking more and more like a great find by the Twins. The string bean right-hander (6-foot-3 and 160 pounds) turned in his best performance of the year Thursday, fanning a season-high 11 while shutting down Bluefield on one run and four hits in his first complete game of the season.
Pino has picked up right where he left off after wowing the DSL with absurd numbers in 2004. His nine wins are tops in the Appy League and he ranks 10th in ERA with a 3.72 mark. In 85 2/3 innings last year, the young Venezuelan posted a 0.53 ERA, striking out 81 while allowing just 49 hits (.161 average) and five walks.
