Macri's injury record from several sources:

Played in just 17 games as a freshman at Notre Dame in 2002 before undergoing Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on April 10, 2002.

2004 - Did not play after August 15 because of inflammation beneath the arch of his right foot.

2005: Saw limited playing time after landing on the DL on two different occasions with a left wrist sprain (June 22-July 19, July 20-remainder of season) reinstated from his first DL stint on July 19 was promoted to Tulsa and played just one game before re-injuring his left wrist and being placed back on the DL for the remainder of the season.

2006: Macris year was cut short due to a broken hamate bone in his left hand, followed by surgery.

Is there any chance of Matt Macri making the jump up from Triple-A to help the Twins out at third?

Macri was a late acquisition this season as he came over from the Rockies system in the Ramon Ortiz trade. A fifth-round selection in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft by Colorado, Macri can play all four infield positions -- though the Twins appear to have him focusing right now on third base.

Considered to be an up and comer in the Rockies system early on in his career, Macri has seen his progress hampered by injuries. That includes a left wrist injury he suffered in July 2006. He rebounded this past season, hitting .299 for the Rockies Double-A Tulsa club before getting traded to Minnesota.

As for what his impact will be with the Twins, Macri was sent to the Arizona Fall League after David Winfree was unable to go due to a shoulder injury. So far, Macri is making quite an impression, hitting .333 (4-for-12) in his first four games with a 1.135 OPS. It seems likely that the Twins will give Macri a chance to showcase some of his talent this spring, especially if the club is unable to obtain an everyday third baseman this offseason.

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have added three players to their 40-man roster. Righthanded pitcher Bobby Korecky and infielders Matt Macri and Matt Tolbert were added, bringing the Twins total to 39 players on their 40-man roster.

Macri, 25, batted .213 (10-for-47) with one double, three home runs and six rbi for Triple-A Rochester last season. Prior to being acquired from Colorado in exchange for Ramon Ortiz on August 15, Macri batted .298 (82-for-275) with 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 33 rbi in 79 games with Double-A Tulsa and .667 (6-for-9) with two doubles, one home run and four rbi in three games with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

On a 2-0 pitch from Switzer, Macri unloaded. The ball cleared the fence, cleared the bullpen and cleared the gateway I-beam that sits perpendicular to the sidewalk along Plymouth.

"Who knows where it landed," Cliburn said. "He didn't need any wind for that one. It was a far one and it was a long one."

And it counted for two on the scoreboard and gave the Red Wings their first win via walk-off homer at Frontier since July 16, 2006 (Glenn Williams).

"With a 2-0 count," Macri said, "I was looking one pitch, one zone."

Macri nearly got his big break earlier this season when he was called up to the Major Leagues in June, where he hit .333 with the Twins in 12 games. The third baseman hit lefties at a .409 clip through 22 at-bats at the big league level, even hitting his first home run on June 12 off Cleveland lefty Aaron Laffey. However, his spot was soon filled and Macri was sent down to work on playing other infield positions. In fact, Macri has played more shortstop and second base than any other position in Rochester. Of late, he seems to not be letting his utility nature effect his offense with four home runs in his last five games.
