Armando Gabino, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed relief pitcher, joined the team last Sunday after fellow reliever Frank Mata was promoted to Double-A New Britain.
Earlier this season at low-Class A Beloit, Gabino pitched 22 innings, giving up two runs and four walks, with 16 strikeouts and a 0.82 ERA. A former third baseman in the Cleveland Indians' organization, the Twins chose Gabino in the Rule 5 Draft in December 2004. Gabino, a Santiago, Dominican Republic, native and 23 years old, was a .248 hitter in the minors before switching to pitcher.
